Charging a Tesla in Türkiye: How to Charge a Tesla with Type 2

By:Bemis E-V Charge6 June 2026Updated: 27 June 20265 min read

Tesla models sold in Türkiye (and Europe) use the standard Type 2 connector for AC charging. This means you can charge your Tesla at home with any standard Type 2 wallbox or cable. Here's what you need to know about charging a Tesla.

Which connector does Tesla use?

The European/Türkiye version of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y uses Type 2 for AC (slow/normal) charging and CCS Combo 2 for DC fast charging. So for AC charging at home, all you need is standard Type 2 equipment; a Tesla-specific device isn't required.

How do I charge a Tesla at home?

  • Type 2 AC Wallbox: the most practical home solution; overnight top-up.
  • Type 2 charging cable: for use with socketed wallboxes or public stations.
  • Power: 7.4-11 kW depending on the vehicle's onboard charging capacity (single/three phase).

The difference between Supercharger and home charging

Tesla Superchargers are DC fast charging; they're ideal for a quick top-up on the road. For daily use, however, AC charging at home is both cheaper and gentler on the battery. Most Tesla owners charge at home with AC and use the Supercharger on long trips.

In short: You can comfortably charge your Tesla at home with a standard Type 2 wallbox/cable; no Tesla-specific equipment is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Tesla be charged with Type 2?

Yes. The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y sold in Türkiye and Europe use the standard Type 2 connector for AC (slow/normal) charging. This means you can comfortably charge your Tesla at home with any standard Type 2 wallbox or cable; there's no need for a Tesla-specific device. In other words, all the standard Type 2 equipment on the market is compatible with your car and you don't have to hunt for a special adapter. For DC fast charging the same models use the CCS Combo 2 connector, but for daily charging at home all you need is standard Type 2 equipment, which makes Tesla ownership quite convenient in this respect.

What do I need to charge a Tesla at home?

The most practical solution for charging your Tesla at home is a Type 2 AC Wallbox; this device safely tops the car up overnight. Alternatively, a Type 2 charging cable for use with socketed wallboxes or public stations will also do the job. Since both options are standard Type 2, no Tesla-specific equipment is required. How fast your car charges at home depends on its onboard charging capacity and your electrical installation, and is generally between 7.4 and 11 kW. For most Tesla owners, a Type 2 wallbox installed at home more than covers daily charging needs.

At how many kW does a Tesla charge at home?

A Tesla's home charging speed is determined by the car's onboard charging capacity and your home's electrical installation; it generally charges via AC at between 7.4 and 11 kW. This power figure varies depending on whether your home is single phase or three phase. On a single-phase installation the power stays lower, while a three-phase connection offers higher power and therefore faster charging. This power range is enough to fully charge the car overnight. Your car's onboard charging unit is the main factor setting the upper limit of the maximum AC power it can accept.

What is the difference between a Tesla Supercharger and home charging?

Tesla Supercharger stations provide DC fast charging and are ideal for gaining high range in a short time on the road. AC charging at home is slower but offers two important advantages for daily use: it is generally cheaper and gentler on the battery, meaning it's better for battery health in the long run. For this reason, most Tesla owners charge at home with AC and use the Supercharger only on long journeys. In short, home AC charging is best for the daily routine, while the Supercharger is best for a quick top-up when travelling.

For a Tesla, is a wallbox or a charging cable better?

Since both are standard Type 2, they are compatible with your Tesla; the choice depends on how you use it. A Type 2 AC Wallbox is the most practical solution for a fixed point at home and tops the car up automatically overnight; it's the most comfortable option for daily home charging. A Type 2 charging cable, on the other hand, is handy when you want to use socketed wallboxes or public stations, and its portability gives you flexibility. If you'll always charge in the same place, a wallbox makes sense; if you'll also charge at different locations, keeping a Type 2 cable with you is a good idea. In either case, no Tesla-specific equipment is needed.
