How to Choose a V2L Adapter: Brand, Socket Count and Cable Guide

By:Bemis E-V Charge11 September 20268 min read

You have found out your car supports V2L; now comes the adapter. This is where most people get stuck: a V2L adapter is not a single product. Several versions do the same job but differ in the connector on the vehicle side, the number of sockets and the cable. Buying the wrong one is usually not a cheap mistake, because a connector that does not fit simply will not go in. This guide reduces the decision to three steps.

Step zero: does your car really have V2L?

An adapter does not add a feature the car does not have; it only makes the output the car already offers usable. If you are not sure your car supports V2L, confirm that first; we listed the models one by one in a separate guide. Skip this step and the other three decisions lose their meaning.

First decision: the connector on the vehicle side, meaning your brand

The end of the V2L adapter that plugs into the car is not the same on every brand. That is why the catalogue carries separate codes for the same product by brand group. Until you pick your own group, none of the other decisions matter:

  • Hyundai · Kia · Ssangyong group
  • MG group
  • BYD · Skywell group
  • Ford Explorer group (2026, Pro Power Onboard)
  • Volvo EX30 group (with V2L update)

When ordering, just look at the brand label next to the product name. If your car is not on the list, ask before buying; a connector that does not fit will not physically go in and you will end up dealing with a return.

Second decision: how many sockets, with or without a cable?

The second distinction is entirely about your use case. There are four basic forms:

  • Single-outlet adapter: plugs straight into the car socket and carries one socket on it. The most compact option; it takes no room in the boot and is enough for anyone feeding a single device.
  • Single-socket extension: one socket at the end of a 3 m cable. Useful when you want to carry the device away from the car.
  • 2-socket extension: 3 m cable, two sockets. For running two devices at the same time.
  • 3-socket extension: 3 m cable, three sockets. The form most preferred for camping, workshop and field use.

A practical rule: if you will run a single device next to the car, the single-outlet version is enough. If you will carry power to a tent, a bench or a table, buy a version with a cable; adding an extension lead afterwards is both untidy and an unnecessary loss.

Third decision: current and what you can actually run

The output of Bemis V2L adapters is the Türkiye-standard Schuko socket and carries a maximum of 16A. In practice, though, the power you can draw is set not by the adapter but by your car: whatever the car's V2L output delivers is the ceiling. That is why the same adapter can run an appliance comfortably on one car and struggle on another. Confirm your car's V2L power from the owner's manual and plan the total load accordingly.

V2L adapter forms: which one suits which scenario
FormCableSocketsTypical use
Single-outletnone1Single device next to the car
Single-socket extension3 m1Carrying the device away from the car
2-socket extension3 m2Two devices at once
3-socket extension3 m3Camping · workshop · field

Not V2L but C2L: let the power come from the charger, not the car

There is also a route that never touches the car's battery. The C2L adapter takes power from the Type 2 output of an AC charging station and converts it to a standard socket. So the source is not the car but the charger on the wall. If your car has no V2L but you do have a charger, you get the same convenience with C2L. On the C2L side there are single, 2-socket and 3-socket options as well as a version with an industrial socket.

For caravan users there is one more form: the C2C adapter adapts the charger output to the connection the caravan is fed from. This is the part people look for when they want to power a caravan from a charging point at a campsite.

Three common mistakes

  • Ordering without confirming the brand group. The most common and most easily avoided mistake; looking at the brand label next to the product name is enough.
  • Expecting the power to come from the adapter. It carries 16A, but the ceiling is set by your car's V2L output; plan power-hungry appliances accordingly.
  • Buying the cable-free version and adding an extension lead later. If you will carry power to a tent or a bench, choosing the version with a cable from the start is tidier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the V2L adapter the same for every car, or does it change by brand?

The connector on the vehicle side changes by brand, which is why the same product carries separate codes by brand group. The Bemis catalogue has five groups: Hyundai with Kia and Ssangyong in one, MG in its own, BYD with Skywell in another, and separate groups for the 2026 Ford Explorer and for the Volvo EX30 with the V2L update. When ordering, just look at the brand label next to the product name. A connector that does not fit will not physically go in, so there is no room for trial and error here; confirming the brand up front saves you a return.

What is the difference between the single-outlet adapter and the extension versions?

The single-outlet adapter plugs straight into the car socket and carries one socket on it; it is the most compact option and takes no room in the boot. The extension versions have one, two or three sockets at the end of a three-metre cable. Your usage decides: if you will run the appliance right next to the car, the single-outlet version is enough; if you will carry power to a tent or a bench, choose a version with a cable.

How many amps and how many kW can I draw from a V2L adapter?

The output of Bemis V2L adapters is the Türkiye-standard Schuko socket and carries a maximum of 16A. The real ceiling, however, is set by the car rather than the adapter: whatever the car's V2L output delivers is the limit. That is why an appliance that runs comfortably on one car with the same adapter may struggle on another car with lower V2L power. Confirm your car's V2L power from the owner's manual and plan the total load of everything you run at once accordingly.

My car has no V2L. Can I still take power from a socket?

Yes, that is what the C2L adapter is for. C2L takes power not from the car's battery but from the Type 2 output of an AC charging station and converts it to a standard socket. So your source becomes the charger on the wall rather than the car. Even if your car has no V2L, you get the same convenience as long as you have a charger. On the C2L side there are single, two-socket and three-socket options as well as a version with an industrial socket.

Which adapter do I need to power a caravan from a charging point?

The C2C adapter is used for this. C2C adapts the Type 2 output of the charger to the connection the caravan is fed from, so you can power your caravan from a charging point at a campsite. It should not be confused with V2L and C2L: V2L takes power from the car, while C2L and C2C take it from the charger. Finding out in advance which connection the campsite offers helps you take the right adapter with you.

What is the most common mistake when choosing a V2L adapter?

Ordering without confirming the brand group. Because the connector on the vehicle side changes by brand, an adapter that does not match simply will not go in and you have to deal with a return. Second comes expecting the power to come from the adapter; it carries 16A, but the ceiling is set by the car's V2L output. Third is buying the cable-free version and adding an extension lead later: if you will carry power away from the car, choosing the version with a cable from the start is tidier.
