What Is V2L?
Frequently Asked Questions
How does V2L work?
V2L uses the energy in the electric vehicle's battery to power external devices. A V2L adapter plugs into the vehicle's Type 2 socket and provides a normal domestic socket (Schuko) output, so devices such as a laptop, lighting or a refrigerator can be run directly from the vehicle without the grid or a generator. Because the current conversion is done by the vehicle, the adapter acts as a safe bridge.
Does every vehicle have V2L?
No, not every electric vehicle supports V2L; the vehicle must have this feature and a suitable socket output. Before using it, you need to check that your vehicle supports V2L and what output power it provides. Bemis manufactures its own V2L adapters compliant with the Type 2 standard.
In what situations is V2L useful?
Because V2L turns the vehicle into a mobile power source, it is practical for camping, outdoor events, fieldwork and emergencies such as power cuts. For example, on a weekend camp the vehicle can power the refrigerator, lighting and phone charging without a generator; during a power cut at home it also serves as a short-term backup power source.
