What Is a Wallbox?

A wallbox is a fixed AC charging station mounted on a wall. It is used in homes, workplaces and residential-complex car parks; it typically has a Type 2 socket, is in the 7.4–22 kW power range, and operates using the Mode 3 method. It lets the vehicle charge much faster and more safely than charging from a portable socket while parked overnight or during the day; thanks to continuous communication the current is adjusted safely and there is residual-current protection. Its fixed installation makes it suitable for daily use and avoids cable clutter. Smart models offer features such as OCPP, a mobile app, load management (DLM) and RFID authorisation, making them suitable for multi-device and fleet installations too. Bemis's Charger series are in-house manufactured AC wallbox devices in the Type 2 standard with IP65/IP66 protection. For example, a home user can charge their car quietly overnight with a wallbox mounted on the garage wall; a workplace can install several wallboxes in its car park and add central monitoring, load management and RFID authorisation via OCPP to manage its employees' vehicles from a single panel. Thanks to IP65/IP66 protection, the device can also be mounted on an external wall in an open car park.
