MG4 Home Charging: Time, Cost and the Right Charger
The MG4's onboard AC charger takes 6.6 or 11 kW depending on the version. At home, charging from 20% to 80% takes 5 h 9 min for the Comfort (51 kWh) on a single-phase 7.4 kW charger, 3 h 53 min for the Luxury (64 kWh) on an 11 kW charger. A 22 kW charger will not charge this car any faster. Because the Comfort version has a single-phase onboard charger, it takes 3.7 kW from a three-phase 11 kW (3×16 A) charger. Charging at home costs about £4.37-4.47 per 100 km at UK household prices.

Home charging time (20% to 80%)
Charging speed is set by the car's onboard AC charger, not by the wallbox. The MG4 takes at most 6.6 or 11 kW depending on the version; a more powerful charger cannot exceed this limit. Because the Comfort version has a single-phase onboard charger, it takes 3.7 kW from a three-phase 11 kW (3×16 A) charger.

- How long does the MG4 take to charge at home?
- From 20% to 80%: with an 11 kW charger Comfort (51 kWh) 9 h 11 min, Luxury (64 kWh) 3 h 53 min; with a single-phase 7.4 kW charger Comfort (51 kWh) 5 h 9 min, Luxury (64 kWh) 5 h 46 min; with a 3.7 kW (16 A single-phase) portable charger Comfort (51 kWh) 9 h 11 min, Luxury (64 kWh) 11 h 32 min. Times depend on the car's onboard AC charger and the battery's state of charge.
- Which charger is right for the MG4?
- It depends on the version: for the Luxury a three-phase 11 kW wallbox, and for the Comfort with its single-phase onboard charger a single-phase 7.4 kW (32 A) wallbox gives the fastest charging. On a three-phase 11 kW (3×16 A) charger the Comfort takes 3.7 kW.
- How many kW does the MG4 take from a three-phase 11 kW charger?
- It depends on the version. The Comfort version has a single-phase onboard charger: a three-phase 11 kW charger (3×16 A) supplies at most 16 A per phase, so this version uses only one phase and takes 3.7 kW. From 20% to 80% takes Comfort (51 kWh) 9 h 11 min; with a single-phase 7.4 kW (32 A) charger Comfort (51 kWh) 5 h 9 min. The Luxury version is three-phase and takes full power from an 11 kW charger: Luxury (64 kWh) 3 h 53 min.
- Does a 22 kW charger charge the MG4 faster?
- No. The MG4 takes at most 6.6 or 11 kW AC depending on the version; a 22 kW charger gives this car the same power. A 22 kW charger only makes sense for a future car that supports 22 kW or for shared use.
- How much does it cost to charge the MG4 at home?
- At the Ofgem price cap (£0.26/kWh, 10.2026) 100 km costs about £4.37-4.47. At public AC chargers you pay about £8.96-9.18 on average, at DC rapid chargers about £12.50-12.81. Tariffs with cheaper night rates lower the cost further.
- Does the MG4 support V2L?
- Yes. The MG4 supports V2L (vehicle-to-load): a V2L adapter plugged into the Type 2 charging socket lets you use the car like a 230 V socket. Bemis V2L adapters for MG work with this car.
